December Treats

December Treats

When I think of Christmas, I think of all the bakes I’m going to make during the Christmas countdown. Here is a list of some Christmas bakes which I love having in rotation throughout December and are so simple and easy that even the kids can get involved!

Gingerbread

This recipe is simple, easy and a great form of kids' entertainment. Make sure to get some gingerbread men cutters so you can ice on stylish clothing.

This recipe should take roughly one hour and thirty minutes and you should get 15-20 biscuits, depending on the size of the biscuit cutters.

Mince Pies

Mince pies are the first thing I think of when it comes to Christmas treats, and they are really easy and fun to make at home.

This recipe serves 12 and will take around an hour to make.

Sausage rolls

These sausage rolls, recipe by Mary Berry, are simple and tasty, even the kids could do them. They don’t need to be used only at Christmas, if they’re a hit, you could have them all year round!

This recipe has two different versions: your traditional pork, and red pepper and ricotta. In total, this serves 30 of each and takes around two hours.

Lebkuchen

This is a classic German biscuit which is spiced like gingerbread with honey. This is very simple to make and can be decorated with chocolate or let the kids ice with royal icing.

This recipe should serve 18, the whole process should take two hours.

Stollen

Stollen is another Christmas classic and, like the lebkuchen, also originates from Germany. Stollen is a fruit bread with nuts, spices, marzipan and candied fruit, which is then coated in icing sugar.

This loaf serves 10-12 and can take around 3-4 hours.
