This weekend is quite memorable. It isn’t every day that we get to see a monumental event. With the King’s coronation and the long weekend ahead of us, as a family, we will have ample time to bond, get creative, and unwind.
To help you make the most of your time, we have curated a list of easy-to-make craft ideas that your little one could do with minimal craft resources at home.
Paper Plate Animals
Things you will need:
- Paper plates
- Paint
- Scissors
- Glue
- Googly eyes (optional)

How to make them?
- Paint the paper plates with the colour of your choice and let them dry.
- Cut out animal features like ears, nose, and mouth from construction paper or any colourful paper you’d have at home.
- Glue the features onto the paper plates to create animal faces.
- Add googly eyes or draw them on with markers.
- Your child can make a variety of animals, like lions, bears, or rabbits, using this technique.
Paper Flowers
Things you will need:
- Construction paper
- Scissors
- Glue
- Pencils or crayons (optional)
How to make them?
- Cut out circles from construction paper in different colours and sizes.
- Cut slits around the edges of each circle, making sure not to cut all the way to the centre.
- Fold up the slits to create the petals of the flower.
- Glue the petals together to form a flower.
- Your child can also create a bouquet of flowers using this technique, adding stems and leaves made from construction paper or drawing them on with pencils or crayons.
Popsicle Stick Picture Frames
Things you will need:
- Popsicle sticks
- Paint or markers
- Glue
- Scissors
- Photo or picture to frame

How to make them?
- Paint or colour the popsicle sticks in the colour of your choice.
- Lay out four popsicle sticks in a square shape and glue them together at the corners to create a frame.
- Cut out a piece of cardboard or paper to fit inside the frame as a backing.
- Glue the picture to the cardboard or paper.
- Glue the cardboard or paper to the back of the frame, making sure the picture is centred.
- Your child can create multiple frames using this technique to display their favourite pictures or artwork.
Sponge Painted Butterflies
Things you will need:
- Sponges
- Paint
- Construction paper
- Scissors
- Pipe cleaners
How to make them?
- Cut out butterfly shapes from construction paper.
- Pour paint onto a plate or palette.
- Dip the sponge into the paint and then dab it onto the construction paper to create colourful butterfly wings.
- Use pipe cleaners to create antennae for the butterfly.
- Your child can create a whole flock of butterflies using this technique.
DIY Bird Feeder
Things you will need:
- Empty toilet paper roll
- Peanut butter
- Birdseed
- String or ribbon

How to make them?
- Cover the toilet paper roll in peanut butter.
- Roll the peanut butter-covered toilet paper roll in birdseed, making sure it sticks to the peanut butter.
- Thread a piece of string or ribbon through the toilet paper roll and tie it at the top.
- Hang the bird feeder from a tree or branch outside.
- Your child can watch as birds come to eat from their homemade bird feeder.
