Sit back and get cosy

Make It a Dressing Gown Kinda Day

A simple slow mourning routine

A slow morning is one of those resets that not just us adults need. Creating that peace, quite and freedom for children to relax can completely rejuvenate their spirit.

The perfect slow morning doesn't really need a plan, but adding structure can make sure that a relaxing morning doesn't feel like a waste, or end up with everyone mindlessly scrolling on their phones.

So here's how to create a calm morning for the whole family.

  1. Start without a rush.

Sleep is one of the most important things in life. It gives your body time to heal, grow, and regain energy. During the winter, you could try sleeping in your dressing gown. This ensures you stay cosy all night and don't get interrupted by that cold breeze from the open curtains. This brings me to my main point, you could try sleeping with the curtains open and letting the natural sunlight wake you up. Waking up to the slow rise of the sun is the most natural and satisfying way to start the day.

  2. Stay Snug.

You've woken up warm and cosy, so don't let that feeling go. Sometimes you feel like you are obligated to get dressed, but today you can push that feeling aside and just enjoy the laziness of it. Let the kids choose which pjs or dressing gowns to stay in. This can help avoid any possible stresses in your slow morning.

  3. A screen-free activity.

Nothing crazy, nothing over active, just a nice quite game for the kids to play. This could be colouring in, reading your favourite Bluey or Gruffalo book or if you're feeling more active, building a pillow fort (this is what I would do!).

  4. Add a little fresh air.

This may sound strange, but just simply all spending 2 minutes standing outside with your dressing gowns on and hot chocolate in hand can really make you appreciate the rest of the day indoors!

  5. Time to be bored.

It's genuinely ok for us all to be bored. Boredom can inspire so much creativity in kids and adults alike. Suddenly you could be running round the room using your dressing gown belt as a ninja turtle headband, or the kids could be creating their very own Bluey episode.
