This week, we are your holiday boredom busters, so here is a list of activities you and your little ones can do outside in the sun!
Make sure to put on their reversible bucket hats and multiple layers of sun cream.
Toddlers
Pouring station
A great way for your little one to explore and experiment pouring water from different cups and jugs. Simply get a large tub and different sized cups and jars, preferably plastic, and fill some of them up with water. You can even get some food colouring to dye the water! This activity can be really fun for your little one but also teach them how to pour.
Flower Walk
Get walking around your garden or local park and have your little one pick some flowers to fill up their vase! Simply print out our worksheet and stick this to a sheet of cardboard, poke holes where the black dots are, and you're set for an adventure!
Bubbles
Chasing bubbles can keep anyone occupied for hours! This activity encourages your little one to get active with running and jumping. Make it more of a competition with instructions such as: Can you catch the biggest bubble? Or which bubble is the highest?
Outdoor Music Station
Get out your pots, pans, wooden spoons and other utensils for your little one to create their own music. It may be pretty noisy but a lot of fun.
Chalk
Get out chalk and their creativity on your driveway, the pavement or in your garden. It’s such a simple and practically mess free way for your little one to draw shapes, practice their letters and get drawing.
Ages 4-7
Make Mud Pies
It’s very messy but so much fun! Gather rocks, flowers, and sticks with your little one for their mud pie and give them a little section in your garden to dig and play. Maybe give them some old cookware like a mixing bowl or an ice cube tray.
Gardening
Have a go at gardening with your little one, and maybe you can eat some wonderful produce or watch flowers bloom. Gather a small container, seeds from your local nursery and get planting. This is a really fun skill for your little one to learn, looking at minibeasts, getting their hands into the soil, a really great way to utilise the great outdoors.
Nature Walk
Go out and about exploring nature with the family. Make it more interesting for your little ones by asking them to identify certain leaves, mini beasts, flowers, etc.
Water Play
Get out the paddling pool, water guns, buckets and washing up bowls for infinite fun in the warm weather
Capture The Flag
A classic playground game, and perfect for a big group of kids. Find some old t-shirts or tea towels in similar sizes, these are your flags. Split the group up so there are at least two teams, give these teams a flag each which they need to protect. When the game begins, teams should try to steal other teams' flags and get them back to their base. If someone on the opposing team taps you, you are frozen in jail until someone from your team frees you.
