Who is Bluey?
Bluey is a 6-year-old Blue Heeler puppy who is full of energy and curiosity for the world around her. Every new episode of the show features Bluey using her wit and positive energy to plan and play entertaining games with her family, younger sister Bingo, father Bandit, and mother Chilli and friends which represent other dog breeds. The show is created and produced in Brisbane, showing Australian culture.
The Beginning

Bluey began development in 2016 with an initial animation demo, which failed to gain traction through his animation company, Studio Joho. This was eventually noticed by ABC and BBC executives, and they helped to secure funding for a polished seven minute pilot. This pilot was then presented in 2017, where both ABC and the BBC ordered 52 episodes of Bluey.
Joe Brumm created Bluey because of raising his two daughters and the experiences he’s gained. He wanted to portray the importance of imaginative play and show that unstructured play is natural in shaping children when they are developing. In Bluey, there is also an element of depicting his experience of being a parent rather than aiming to teach kids a lesson, which creates the perfect formula of showing parents what children can learn while engaged in play, while also making kids laugh.
The first episode of Bluey ‘The Magic Xylophone’ was released on the 1st October 2018 on ABC Kids and in 2019 in the UK.
Bluey is an extremely successful TV show for both little ones and their parents winning many awards, including a BAFTA.
Currently, Bluey is on hiatus after the conclusion of season 3, and there are plans to continue the program after a well-deserved break. Joe Brumm will be stepping back from the writing and directing of the program after completing what he wanted to accomplish with the series.

Video Games
Bluey has many online games for your little ones to play, such as Mastermind Quiz or Keepy Uppy. There is also a console game released in 2023, with your favourite pups' family, which lets your little one free roam around Bluey’s Brisbane while playing games with your favourite character and following a four-part storyline.
This year, in late 2026, a new PC and console game, ‘Happy Snaps’, will follow Bluey and Bingo as they use Bandit’s old camera to take photos on their family trip. Enjoy taking photos and scrapbooking as you explore Bluey’s home and adventures.
Bluey: The Movie
The film is set to hit cinemas worldwide on 6th August 2027. While details about the storyline are still under wraps, you can stay up to date with all the latest news by visiting the official Bluey website.

Music
Bluey has released many music albums, the first being in 2021 called Bluey: The Album, which features 17 tracks from season 1. This album also won an ARIA for Best Children's Album. Since 2021, three other albums have been released, the latest being Bluey Up Here, which was released on March 27th 2026.

The show features Bandit wanting a calm Sunday afternoon, chilling in the sun on a beanbag, while Bluey and Bingo have completely different plans for their dad's Sunday afternoon. Find out how Bluey and Bingo get their Dad off his beanbag with games and cleverness.
Enjoy singing and dancing for 50 minutes in a theatre near you until 26th August 2026.
Theme Parks
The first Bluey ride is at CBeebies Land in Alton Towers. There are twists and turns through Bluey and Bingo’s back garden, an exciting treat for you and your little ones.

Bluey’s World Brisbane is an immersive experience for you and your little ones. It lets you explore Bluey’s house and back garden. The perfect place for a family day out.

There is a lot of merchandise with Bluey and her family and friends, including teddies, kids' clothing, toys such as playsets or collectables, clothing and Lego sets.

Cameos
TV Shows
Bluey has appeared in many TV shows, from Abbot Elementary to The Simpsons. The Heeler Family has gone on many adventures and met many new friends.
Advertisement
In 2024, after the premiere of The Sign, Zillow released an advertisement showing how moving from one home to another can be a positive experience. This was narrated by Dan Brumm, who voices Stripe in Bluey, and referenced the show in the advert.
To add to the humour of the advert, the commercial showed four heeler dogs looking pretty sad at the thought of moving.
Coins
In 2024, the Australian Mint created a Bluey DollarBuck coin, one with Bluey and one with Bingo to celebrate the success and social impact of the TV show for both audiences and Australia.
There has also been created a collectable coloured coin with Bluey and Bingo, which came out for Christmas in 2025.
