It can be really hard to get to sleep during a heatwave, especially for your little ones. We’ve put together some tips and tricks on how you can get your little one to sleep during even the hottest days.
Keep Rooms Cool
The cooler the room, the better, especially with the desired temperature for sleep being 16 to 20 degrees. Do this by keeping the windows, blinds or curtains closed throughout the day.
In the evening, or when the air is cooler, open up windows on the opposite sides of the house, this will allow cool air to travel through the house.
Put on a fan with some ice cubes in front of it or position the fan facing outside the open window to encourage the exit of hot air in your little one's bedroom.
Cool down the bed
Keep layers to a minimum. If you have waterproof mattress covers, make sure they are removed as this can encourage sweating. Instead, use night time pull up nappies, a cotton towel on top of the mattress or a disposable absorbent mat.
Fill a water bottle up with ice and cold water, this can then be put into your little one's bed to ensure the temperature stays cool for longer. Make sure you have a cover for the bottle or remove it before they go to sleep to prevent contact with their skin.
Keeping your little one cool
Wear less or breathable cotton pyjamas like our personalised pyjamas and our matching family fam jams, perfect for warmer evenings.
Give a cool bath to lower their body temperature, make sure this is not too cold, as this can promote an increased body temperature.
Use a cool compress on their forehead or put chilled socks on to lower their overall body temperature.
Hopefully these tips and tricks are useful for your little one to get some well deserved rest throughout these tropical nights.
