This week, I thought I’d tell you all about Every Other Mother.

Every Other Mother is a baby-friendly event for mums which combines stand-up comedy, poetry and short stories from comedians, poets and other mothers.

This event is one of many across England which are made to create connections, give support and entertainment for new parents, primarily mums who want to have a laugh during their day.

Becoming a mum can be daunting and isolating for some women who experience mental health challenges during pregnancy and during the first months after giving birth.
The shows are meant to be a relaxed environment where mothers, foster mothers or grandmothers are not judged and an inclusive space for any insecurity they may be facing. This gives mothers the chance to learn something new, have a laugh and feel inspired to tell their own story.

The show has been going on since the beginning of 2024 and was created by poet Sophie Cameron and Sally Mcllhorne. They both bonded over not fitting the stereotypical mum by talking about guilt or loneliness and the relief of laughing about the hard bits, instead of discussing the new model of pram.

The pair created Every Other Mother to celebrate creativity within motherhood and to show that mothers can do anything if they put their mind to it, even if the ideas came from a sleep-deprived state.

Every Other Mother isn’t the only daytime baby and parent comedy show; Screaming with Laughter is held around London venues, BYOB Comedy is held between Surrey & Birmingham and Milk Club Comedy is held in Bradford near Leeds every few months.

Make sure to have a look at these heart-warming comedy shows if and when you feel down or just want a laugh with your little one.
