Rainy Day Activities

Rainy Day Activities

It’s been pretty dark, wet, and rainy for the past couple of weeks so let's have a look at what you can do on rainy days with your little ones.

Go to a Historical House

For light rain, this can be a really good idea to keep the little ones active and entertained. National Trusts or English Heritage sites tend to have undercover activity areas or creative tents dotted around the grounds. This not only keeps them entertained but also warm and dry.

Make some slime

Now I know what you're thinking, you see slime and you think what a mess and the chemicals! Well, there is a very simple and easy way to make this slime with only 2 ingredients you can find in the back of your kitchen cupboards, cornflour and water. The slime comes out with a satisfying lump when you hold the mixture and then reverts to a liquid when you stop moving your hands. It’s so satisfying that even you will want to have a go.

Make it by pouring out some cornflour into a bowl (Add some food colouring for some extra colour), and slowly incorporate the water a little at a time until you create a slime-like consistency.

Host an Indoor Picnic

Get your little one to gather a blanket and all their teddies for a picnic. Maybe they can help to make some lunch and sweet treats! Once you have made lunch, sit down with all the family and their teddy bear friends and have an indoor picnic

Make a Blanket Fort

The classic kids' activity for a rainy day! Find as many blankets and pillows in your house and make a fort. To make the shelter stand, use sofas, beds or airers and create a cosy blanket fort. You can decorate your fort with fairy lights if you have some lying around.

Create a Rube Goldberg Machine

A Rube Goldberg Machine is a contraption that uses chain reactions to complete a simple task like turning on a light or popping a balloon. They can be made with items from around your house, like dominoes, string or fans. Have a look at some of the Wallace and Gromit films if you need some inspiration!

Bake

Make some cupcakes or biscuits with your little ones and decorate them with some yummy royal icing.
