How To Wash And Care For Your Daywear?

Our Roy's Boys daywear products are soft, functional and comfortable to wear. Following the simple steps below can help you extend the life of your daywear by many months and years. 

• Machine wash at 30 °C 
• Do not bleach, tumble dry or dry clean your daywear
• Wash and dry similar colours together
• If ironing, iron on reverse on a medium setting

How long will it take to be delivered?

Your delivery will depend on the service you select. All times are after your order has been despatched. You will receive an email notifying you once your order has been despatched.

What Is Dye Transfer?

If you’ve ever noticed colour rubbing off your clothing onto your skin, shoes, or lighter clothing, you’re not alone. Dye transfer can happen with printed fabric, especially those with bold, dark, or highly saturated colours.

This is most common when clothing is brand new. Printed designs often use concentrated pigments to achieve vibrant, long-lasting colours, and some excess dye can remain on the surface of the fabric at first.

What Causes Dye Transfer?

During the printing and dyeing process, clothing is treated with rich pigments to create detailed patterns and vivid colours. While most of the dye bonds to the fabric, a small amount of excess pigment can sit on the surface.

When clothing is worn — especially before the first few washes — friction, moisture, and heat can cause some of that dye to transfer onto lighter surfaces such as skin, shoes, or other fabrics.

Common Items at Risk for Dye Transfer

To help you protect your belongings, here are the items most likely to pick up dye from printed socks:

• The inside of shoes or insoles, especially when light in colour.

• Bare feet or skin

• Clothing worn near or may come into contact with socks.

• Light-colored bedding or upholstery

How to Prevent Dye Transfer

Here are a few easy ways to minimise dye transfer:

• Wash socks before the first wear — This helps remove any excess surface dye. Turn socks inside out, wash in cold water, and wash with similar dark colours.

• Avoid fabric softener — It can interfere with dye setting.

• Air dry when possible — This helps preserve both colour and print quality.

• Be cautious during the first few wears — Dark or highly printed socks may need several washes before the dye fully sets.

• Avoid wearing them with light shoes or fabrics at first, especially if the socks may get damp from sweat or moisture.

What if My Socks Stain Something?

If dye transfer occurs, try these tips:

• Skin: Wash with soap and warm water — dye will typically come off easily.

• Clothing: Launder the item promptly before the dye sets.

• Shoes or insoles: Use a cleaner suitable for the material (canvas, leather, etc.).

Is This a Defect?

No-dye transfer is a natural characteristic of printed and richly dyed socks, particularly when new. It does not indicate a defect and will diminish quickly over time with regular washing and wear.

As dye transfer is a normal and expected characteristic of printed socks, we are unable to offer refunds or replacements for items that become stained. We are also not responsible for any cleaning or repair costs related to dye transfer onto shoes, skin, clothing, furniture, or other personal items.
